Life under Coronavirus Quarantine
Coronavirus is one of the worst nightmares that has ever been experienced in the world. The pandemic has recalibrated everything from play, lifestyle, and work. When the coronavirus outbreak began, I had visited a friend in Italy. I did not stay there for a long and within a few days, I was back in my country. Upon arrival, I went through some tests to check whether I had contacted the coronavirus disease. I could not think of having the virus since I had not stayed there long enough to contract the virus. Having gone through the tests and tested negative, I was advised to self-quarantine as one of the first precautions, for fourteen days. I spent the two weeks alone in my room at home and I was unable to associate with others. Some of my family members could understand my situation while others could not. However, being indoors and in quarantine was a struggle.
At first, I did not take the pandemic seriously but after some days in quarantine, I came to realize that it was a crisis since it had become a global pandemic. I also came to realize that the negative impacts of coronavirus have not only affected the health of the people but also the economy of the world. My life under coronavirus quarantine was a struggle. Being alone and no one to check on you even your closest friends. I found everything taking longer but I had the thought that in the next few weeks, things would change. The pandemic has affected my personal life when I was in quarantine. It has also affected my association with my workmates and my employer though we kept communicating through social media. The pandemic has changed the way I travel around the city while doing my research. However, being a researcher I sometimes had to go to the field to do my research on the group’s project. During my two days out, I used public transport and I felt nervous. While traveling, I protected myself from the virus by making sure I have pocket sanitizers, which I apply to my palms. Additionally, during transits and in public places, I made sure I wore my facemask and maintained a social distance. I was not able to work properly at home and therefore I could not enjoy it to the fullest. Being a researcher and in quarantine, working at home greatly affected my routines at work. I found it difficult to do my study and collect the required data.
During the quarantine period, I experienced difficulties relating to my family and my social life. It was difficult for me to get along with my siblings since they had a perspective of infecting them with the deadly disease. Being a mother of three, my children had come from school and I had to keep them occupied during the day. I used the mobile phone to communicate with them and when I wanted to see them, I maintained a distance. I made sure they do not enter into my room or either come into contact with my stuff. I also enlightened them on keeping themselves safe by washing their hands with soap and water. Further, I always assured them that I was well and quarantine was just for a short period. I used social media to get in touch with my friends and other family members whom I do not live with and might be worrying about my condition. During my period of quarantine, there were no rituals or activities invented to help me cope with the lockdown.
