Obama and Trump national prayer breakfast comparison
Ethos helps a person giving a speech to emphasize the argument through his or her ethical integrity and authority. Both President Obama and Trump come from different backgrounds and holds different ethics. During the ‘National Prayer Breakfast,’ the two Americans starts with an introduction based on their goals. President Trump has a different perspective on the individuals in the offices and his religious understanding because he says that people should be appreciated by how much they offer. For example, Trump says that he fired one of his employers for telling him that his business show will not work, and it worked. Trump also uses repetitive styles throughout the speech to show the significance of the statements. President Obama, on the other hand, has a very humble and pure start of the speech, thus taking the attention of the audience; for instance, he starts with a bible verse. Obama defines the success of the state as harmony, faith, and love between each individual in the country without discrimination or hatred. Also, Obama uses styles such as the dialogue between individuals and pays equal respect to each of them.
The arguments of both presidents are based on faith and security towards Americans and non-Americans. Either in religious, economic, or political. The two speeches are great, but when one considers the logic used by the two presidents may conclude that they have different ways of reasoning. President Trump has a different approach to faith even though his speech does not talk much of faith in the country, though, he says that he believes for a country to succeed needs people of a high ideal. Also, Trump says that the immigrants should be restricted until they respect and love the values of America, and failure to that, they will be punished. On the other hand, Obama emphasizes people to work together to overcome fear, insecurity through faith, love, and harmony. Obama does not talk of any punishment or violating immigrants because he believes that they need support, love, and security, which can only be given by the citizens of America, thus showing each citizen have importance and a responsibility to the country. Therefore, although both presidents want to maintain peace and security to the country, they have different approaches to conquer the problem; for example, Trump believes an ideal person in the office will manage security. In contrast, Obama believes residents can maintain security through good relations with each other and the creator.
When viewing the two speeches, one may be drawn feelings by different statements in the speech. Personally, the speech given by President Obama is more emotional compared to the speech given by President Trump, that because of the way he uses his subjects in the address. Obama encourages people to have courage, strong faith, love, and unity among themselves. We all know such elements in society prevent any social problem, either external or internal. Also, Obama emphasizes the importance of God and respect for religion by giving examples of different people who had to overcome fear for others and the consequences of fear. Therefore, Obama’s approaches and tactics towards social problems are extremely wise and have a smooth path since, instead of giving threats for compulsory implementation of the law, he gives the word of faith, love, unity, and courage.
