The Valve company has sorely chosen to have employees at the expense of managers since they believed their organizational structure is based on a technological aspect where they create artistic models to help them achieve their goals and objectives to run the entire company’s operations. The company sees no need to have managers who only focus on creating procedures, therefore, being opposite with the companies strategical aspect on the project. When it comes to the Apple company, their organizational structure is based on the fact that they require functional structures to help enhance their operations. It involves distributing roles amongst the employed managers, whereby some are given the task of controlling the activities of software engineering, hardware capacities, and the roes of marketing. In contrast, other managers are given the mission of enhancing the across-the-board marketing aspect for its functionality. Therefore, it helps the company attain its intended goals and meet all its demands on a comprehensive basis.

Advantage of divisional structure

A divisional structure takes into account the need for a more substantial business organization to have the maximum ability to segregate all the significant sections for company business to a very autonomous level. It focuses on a single product and service that aligns with the demands of a particular organization.

The disadvantage of divisional structure

The primary division of the structure made during the segregations may lead to the issue of compartmentalization, where the products being sold may end up being incompatible. It leads to a shutdown of the operations since the organization fails to meet up to the demands of the society on the business aspect.

Advantage of functional structure

It grants the employees maximum capacities through specialization where they get to operate in their groups efficiently, leading to every departmental competence entirely. The employees, therefore, have the opportunity to perform on what they best fit in easily without the need to struggle to adopt the demands of the general society from the struggles of their entire operations and aspects of service delivery.

The disadvantage of functional structure

Certain territorial disputes may exist since some of the functional groups and subdivisions may fail to cooperate, therefore leading to disagreements. The conflicts triggered tend to make the organization fail to enhance its operations since everything is put on a halt at all costs.

The Microsoft company first had the divisional structure of operations, but they were unable to efficiently integrate the Microsft SharePoint and Windows Live platforms well enough. Therefore, it forced the company to reorganize its structure and seek that of the business functionality to help enhance its operations maximally.

My university has an organizational structure that is highly based on the aspect of Functional operations. This structure helps to enhance the institution’s daily activities since the employees can work in regards to what they are the best fit in; therefore, it helps to boost their morale even as they work. If I were called upon to offer advice to the institution, I would focus on encouraging the university to take the upfront role and employ very qualified and skilled staff members. They will help in promoting the service delivery aspect even as the university is running. Also, it will help boost the means through which active support is granted to the target audience. It will focus on building the entire university image on an extensive aspect globally. Those employees who end up having minor skills will be forces to undergo training to help them fit into the demands of the institutions and to get accepted into the university entirely highly.
