- Six Dimensions of Wellness
Wellness and living a healthy life has developed to characterize more than just being bodily fit. Healthy living is associated with mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Well-balanced wellness can result in a prosperous life while failing to balance well-being can result in a failure in life. Wellness is a mindful, self-directed, and developing course of archiving a full prospective. Wellness can also be defined as a multi-dimensional and holistic surrounding way of life that improves individual mental wellbeing. Education is one of the areas where wellness is much impactful. A student can be successful academically or fail to depend on his or her wellness planning, and the lifestyle adopted. Through the incorporation of six collaborative scopes, each aspect forms a part that is required to create a balance in wellness. Each piece is important, and none is avoidable or less important than the other since they are able to play a crucial role together. A student needs to balance these factors to improve mental wellbeing, which reflects positively in academics.
A student can succeed academically by balancing the six dimensions in the most appropriate manner. Each factor has a special role that it plays in improving student academic work. The physical dimension is a way of preserving an important sound body through a systematic exercise, maintaining proper nutrition, sleeping well, and avoiding any harmful habits. Having a rounded exercise program can have a crucial impact on bodily wellness (Wickramaratne, 2018). Students should be physically fit that being able to engage in different activities. Having a proper nutrient helps the student to consume healthy products that boost mental capability. Having a proper sleep is also essential has it helps to have enough to relax and refresh before resuming studies. The students are able to study more appropriately, having a relaxed mind rather than being tired. A student who does not practice physical wellness will find it hard to concentrate in class, which decrease the level at which the student is able to understand different concepts.
An emotional dimension occurs when someone is aware of his or her own thoughts and feelings. In this dimension, one should be able to express thoughts as well as being able to absorb from others. The students are able to focus on studies since he or she is aware of what to do. Also, it is easy for a student to learn from others since he or she can express and absorb thoughts from others. A student who does not absorb from others can have a hard time studying with other students as a group, which is a disadvantage. The spiritual dimension is a sense of understanding that life is meaningful and has a purpose. Spiritual wellness allows someone to have more than the physical realm of existence and experiences. A student can use this dimension to understand that there is a purpose to fulfill, and education is one of them. A student who does not have a purpose is likely to fail since he or she has nothing to lose. The intellectual scope is being able to intermingle with the world that is around you. A student can use this dimension to open mind to more learning on what is happening globally. The dimension comprises linking with others on an intellectual level. Therefore, the student is likely to learn and have more awareness of what is happening around the world. A student who lacks intellectual is likely to lose much information about what is happening globally, which also important in studies.
The environmental dimension allows the student to surround him or her with good work and environ that is free from any form of hazard. The environment allows the student to respect the surroundings as well as gaining personal fulfillment from the surroundings. A calm environment allows the student to study without any form of interference. However, a student who is unable to live to be in a calm environment is unlikely to study properly since they are easily distracted by the surroundings (Lin, 2019). Lastly, the social dimension enables a student to relate and interact with others in a more appropriate manner. Social wellness also involves one being comfortable and free to engage in a healthy living environment. Being unable to relate with others is likely to make the student uncomfortable in class and in group discussions, which limits the manner in which the students learn. Balancing the six dimensions means that the student is able to practice each of the dimensions. Each dimension plays a different role; therefore, the student must ensure all dimensions are focused since they impact one another. Students who embrace these dimensions are more likely to succeed in their academics since they are better equipped compared to students who lack wellness dimensions.
- Four Stages of Self-Regulatory Ability
There are four phases of self-regulatory ability; they include chaos, stability, flexibility, and mastery. Chaos is the first stage of attaining any order; at this stage, an individual has no self-direction on the world. At this stage, an individual does not have control over what is around, and the pressure is high on every side. Therefore, this stage leaves someone with no option rather than to seek help. The help might be academically, psychologically, or any other way. Getting help is necessary in order to attain the next stage. For example, when I was in high school, my Dad was employed in a job where we had to keep on shifting from one place to another. Therefore, I could not maintain the same school for a long time. This affected my academics in a negative manner since it is important to remain at one school where the teacher and students have completely understood you. One time I was transferred to a different school as a result of family movement (Grills, 2019). This time, the situation turned out to be worse as the students were far ahead with the syllabus compared to the school I was before. My goal was to change my performance and improve gradually; however, the situation was not favorable as I felt far behind of what others were doing.
Instability stage, the pressures are reduced, and the environment is kind to live in compare to that of chaos. One has basic ways of overcoming some of the challenges encountered. However, much effort is required to maintain a personal life, academics, and homeostasis. One is required to follow given guidelines to maintain stability; failure to follow given guidelines can result in the chaos that had already been solved. For example, after being unable to follow my goals and comply with the school, I had to change tactics in order to improve the situation. I created some extra time that I would use for studies in order to catch-up with others. I also ensured that I also created some time for personal life, although it was limited since most of the time I spent on studies. In areas where I was unable to understand, I asked help friends who were much familiar with the tasks. However, what I depended on most to ensure that I catch-up with others was a personal timetable that gave me guidelines to follow.
The third stage is flexibility, which appears to be similar to stability. One exception that is unique in this stage is that an individual can effectively manage academics and personal life without wandering. One can be able to go through challenges using different methods, thus being able to overcome the challenges more easily. However, it is good to note that at this stage, one can still go back to the chaos stage if there is a lack of seriousness. For example, as I continued to receive guidance and assistance from my close friends, I developed confidence as I saw, I could archive the goals that I had tough have vanished. Since I was introduced to most of the topics, I did not depend much on timetables, which had a tight time limit. I was able to control my personal life and that of academics without affecting one another.
Mastery is the greatest stage among the other stages; one is able to apply the principles while adjusting to another place. Mastery is a stage that works oppositely compared to chaos. This is because there is a complete balance of how people change and shift to various activities without any form of struggle and complexity. One is able to balance academics, personal life, and homeostasis. This shows that there is no form of any friction between activities since an individual is able to alternate activities while maintaining harmony. For example, at this level, I had overcome my challenges, and I was at the same phase with other students. I was able to have self-regulated learning in which I was able to monitor myself without the need for time tables. I was also able to give myself self-reinforcement; that is, I did not depend on my friends anymore since I was already familiar with every topic. I balanced my personal life-controlling, my behaviors, and emotions. The factors created a balance of academics, personal life, and homeostasis.
- Question 2
- Good and Bad Time Management
Having a goal setting as one of the management tools is much effective since it allows one to keep time. In business, there are two elements of success that is time management and setting goals. The business owner should be able to determine the goals of the business and ensure that they are meat with time. Goals are related to time management because they must be archived at a given time. Through set goals, the business is able to provide direction for every individual who is part of the business. When everyone in the organization is aware of what should be archived, each individual starts to work towards the achievement of the goals set. Therefore, employees are able to prioritize their work in a timely manner. The goals are related to time management as they help to meet deadlines in the business. Timely goals are able to give employees motivation to meet the goal within the specified time. The action plan created is also effective as it helps in creating the required time frame. Goals avoid wastage of time; for example, employees do not have to focus on the matter that is important in the business. Employees do not have to wander thinking of what they should do next after completing one task; they are focused on a particular goal that they must be able to archive (Caligor, 2017). Goals help in managing distractions; that is, employees are less distracted from other employee personal issues and other projects that might be introduced in the middle of another task. Having goals ensures that employees are focused on the main task and no other events that are occurring in between.
Time is one of the factors professionals and businesses cannot afford to lose. In order to archive a specific outcome at a given time, the owner of the business must be able to prioritize work. For example, in a situation where the employee has been given different jobs with different deadlines, it is impossible for the employee to deliver all the jobs at the same time. However, the employee can still be able to deliver every job before its deadline; this can be archived through prioritizing. Prioritizing allows an individual to work on areas that are in need most and later turned back to jobs that can be done within a longer period of time. Prioritizing tasks is the key to successful time management. Also, prioritizing can be addressed in a situation where an employee has been given various tasks; the employee can decide to prioritize the work considering which is more important than the other. Therefore, prioritizing is linked to time management since it contributes to complete different tasks in a timely manner.
Stress is related to bad time management. Good time management is crucial if one is able to undertake excessive work without any form of stress. Time management helps one to decrease long-standing stress by giving guidelines when one has much work to cover. However, failure to plan time well can lead to stress. Stress comes as a result when one is unable to meet the tasks given in a timely manner. This leads to low productivity since one is unable to work as expected. Stress limits one’s capability of thinking and working since much of the energy is focused on how to solve the existing problems. For example, people who work in highly demanding jobs are required to have proper time management to ensure that they have meant every task. Failure to archive this, they are likely to undergo more stress than an average person. Poor time management contributes to stress due to a lack of control in the field that an individual is working on archiving his or her goal. Lack of organization also contributes to time wastage since one does not have a procedure to follow and work out the task in a timely manner. Therefore, time plays a major factor in preventing stress in either business, profession, or any other field that requires the commitment of the individual.
Time management is related to procrastination. Managing time well can prevent procrastination as it makes one feel in control of the workload, thus increasing productivity and confidence. Procrastination mostly results from poor time management. This occurs when an individual is unclear about factors that should be of priority at work, not having goals to archive and lack of objectives while assigning the work. Procrastination is a threat, especially to professional productivity. For example, an individual can have two tasks that he considers to carry out; however, due to lack of proper planning, one of the tasks ends up not being done. This is a result of not allocating proper time to each task, thus resulting in procrastination. Therefore, poor time management results in procrastination.
- Time Management Systems
Time management systems promote a ridiculously high standard that cannot be archived by humans in a perfect manner. This is because time management systems are inhumane; time management can work perfectly for machines but cannot work in the same manner to humans who are driven by emotions. Humans also have to account for their energy while managing their willpower (Daniels, 2017). Time management fails to undertake some of the factors that make us human such as emotions, mental and energetic factors. Time management is unrealistic since it reduces happiness while creating anxiety. The idea that human should be able to manage every millisecond is impossible; is not only the idea unrealistic but also increase pressure on humans. This makes people become anxious and guilty for the time they have not accounted for in one way or the other. This cam effects such as lack of sleep as someone will sleep thinking and worrying about things that should be done in his or her to-do list. People should stop concentrating on time management and start managing their focus. People should be taking action and getting things done, thus bringing a sense of achievement. The most important action that should be considered is creating a habit of consistency action, which will, in turn, produce real results.
- Procrastination leads to failure.
Procrastination is described as a thief of time as people spend most of their time making excuses and postponing events, thus consuming time that could have been utilized in completing the tasks. Therefore, the word thief refers to the time that is not accounted for, yet it could have been utilized for given productivity. Procrastination is one of the factors that hinder success, thus leading to failure. Procrastination hinders tasks from being completed in a successful manner. This means that an individual can start a task but leave it halfway; lack of completion due to excuses at the end leads to failure of the task (Iber, 2017). Other tasks require time to complete, which cannot be archived with procrastination. Time is one of the resources that are required to ensure that tasks have been completed in a successful manner. Therefore, not having enough time to complete the tasks is likely to lead to failure. Lastly, having fear can create a psychological problem that can stick to an individual in procrastination. The psychological fear keeps an individual frozen in one place, thus being unable to carry out any task and, at the end resulting in failure.
