Philosophy of Religion

God really exists, and this I can tell after studying the five ways presented by Aquinas to prove the existence of God. In the first way, Aquinas described God as the prime mover. To prove the existence of God, Aquinas highlighted that everything that moves must be moved by another, and then this by another (Spencer, 2017). Then there is the first mover who cannot be moved by another, and that is God. In the second way, Aquinas described God as the first cause. Aquinas stated that every cause must have its cause, and since this cannot extend to infinity, there must be the original cause, and this is God. In the third way, Aquinas acknowledged God as the necessary thing, and in this case, Aquinas talked of necessity and possibility. With possibility, Aquinas talked of things that have the capability to exist but did not exist. That which comes into existence comes through another thing that is already existing, and this is the necessary thing. Everything thing that is necessary is so because of another necessary thing, and then there is that which is necessary by itself, God. In the fourth way, Aquinas stated that God exists as the absolute being, and in this case, he stated that everything has a certain degree of perfection. Then there is that one being which is perfect, God. In the final way, Aquinas termed God as the grand designer (Dodds, 2017). Aquinas lamented that naturally, everything exists for a purpose. However, somethings are not able to direct themselves, and therefore they must be directed by another might thing, God
