Privacy Rights in the “Internet of Things”
While the evolution of technology has indeed gone a long way towards facilitating people’s life way, it has also come with some incursions and threats as well. The Internet of Things (IoT) is an important player in any part of life, such as in smart cities, smart home systems, in logistics, in entertainment, health and others. As it’s necessary to look at the main parts of the technology, security risks as well as the corresponding counter-measures and privacy issues (Badirova, 2018). The paper is a discussion of the privacy rights in IoT, with the thesis statement that privacy and data protection on one hand and information security, on another side, narrowly links areas even with the possibility of the overlapping.
The link between privacy, data protection and information security in IoT can be better understood through an understanding the human rights’ provision of a helpful framework in measuring some of the predicted impacts of adapting IoT (Sloan, 2018). The reason behind this is because human rights presenting a rather generalized global consensus on the conditions for human flourishment, goals which guide government policies, NGO work, legal systems, etc. The rights people have by the fact they are human take on most importance; their violation indeed denies the opportunity for the main human wellbeing People value their protection and privacy of the person information and personal lives (Maras, 2015). They value having an extent of control over knowing things about them. As a result, while IoT is not a necessarily new paradigm to them, its features, embraced innovations and technologies keep it rather novel and fresh. Therefore, technology as well as IoT is evaluating and ever-changing structure which has both the risks and benefits, as mainly individual users, the customers can be on the side that is rather risky.
