QuickMart opens up a new store in the city centre clapping back at rivals
QuickMark Supermarket has opened its first outlet in city centre leveling the game for
QuickMart moves to set a shop in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) that has been fueled by the disarray in Kenya’s retail sector that caused the collapse of already established supermarkets that had large controlling share in the city centre consumers.
Top retailers in the country like Uchumi supermarkets were in trouble, which led to the closure of most of its shops. Nakumatt, the former regional leader, collapsed, giving way to its rival. Tuskys has also been seen to close some of its downtown branches.
“This store allows us to be part of the action in the heart of Nairobi being our first store in the CBD,” said Quick Mart head of marketing Betty Wamaitha.
The supermarket has been shying from setting outlets in Nairobi’s CBD and opted to open shops in malls and outlets that were vacated BY Nakumatt and Uchumi supermarket.
QuickMart had merged with Tumaini supermarket last year, a move that saw it become the third-largest retailer in the country. The retailer is looking to open up two more braches, which will total to five branches they have opened this year.
