Reacting to the “Rear Window Movie”
“Rear Window” is an American thriller film that was written by Hayes John and directed by Hitchcock Alfred. The film is based on the story entitled “it had to be Murder,” and that was written by Woolrich Cornell. “Rear Window” was acted in the year 1954, whereby its main actors are James Stewart, Raymond Burr Grace Kelly, Thelma Ritter, and Wendell Corey. The story is all about a photographer who holds a claim that he had witnessed a murder. While confined in the wheelchair, he spends his life in the balcony using a lens to watch everything that happens in the country, and he is finally convinced that he saw the murder and all the people who practiced it. The film generally focuses on the murder and how the crippled photographer observes those murders. In the film, Lars Thorwald is the main antagonist and is believed to carry out all the murders in the country. The themes which are expressed in the film include the theme of the social values, modern marriage, morality, loneliness, detachment, and self-reflection, among others. This paper analyzes the themes and general setting of the film.
After watching the film, it can be noted that the various themes have been expressed. They include the theme of social values, modern marriage, morality, loneliness, and self-reflection. The social lives of the murderers and those who were against are elaborated by the characters. Characters like Lars Thorwald and Thelma Ritter have been explained as the people who were evil in society, and they caused a lot of deaths in society. They made the social life of the people in the country difficult since there was no peace at all. Another theme that is highly explained in this film is the theme of loneliness. James Stewart is crippled, and all of the time is seen indoors watching the country using his leans and how the murder activities are being carried out. Steward is lonely after being involved in the accident since he cannot walk out of the house and fight like the other people. The state of morality wants as it is expressed from the film. People are being killed like the flies, and that symbolizes how notorious the community is. In short, the themes expressed in the film shows that when there are evil things like murder in society, the social life of the people becomes difficult to enjoy.
The general setting of the film can be said to be good since it is set in the traditional when there were a lot of differences between the citizens of the United States of America. The setting deploys some of the evil activities which were happening during that time and how various individuals were contributing towards it. The message of the film can be applied in modern society to teach people about the diverse effects of differences in the country. The film has been used to explain many things happening in modern society, such as murder, immorality, and other dimensions. The production of the film is also said to have been made using all the standards. From the introduction to the conclusion, the characters explained all things concerning America in 1954. The film is, therefore, relevant to modern society, and it can reflect the social activities happening in the modern world.
