Self-Assessment
Question One
My writing skills have improved significantly since the day I enrolled in the English course. Before I began pursuing the English course, a considerable number of my essays could not portray any sensible meaning to other readers except on my end. Again, the flow of events and content on the paper I wrote was not that appealing since the reader found it challenging to connect between various points. Also, I could not make good use of conjunctions and sentence starters hence being a challenge for the audience to comprehend. Now that I have been gaining relevant knowledge through the English course, I can attest that I have seen positive progress as far as writing skills are concerned. It is worth noting that I have gained a series of writing skills, including expository, descriptive, persuasive, and narrative. Notably, it is through studying the English course that my writing confidence has been elevated, though I am still in the process of learning.
Question two
Students have varied strengths and weaknesses when it comes to writing skills. Among my significant advantages when it comes to writing is the capability of sitting down for long hours to put down a comprehensive essay. Honesty, not everyone can manage to stay still for long stretches of time. Curiosity is yet another strength that instigates me to explore more on writing topics and concepts. I always tend to be curious about learning more from other persons as well as ideas, a personality that has contributed significantly to boosting by writing skills. In the recent past, I have been struggling with constructing a comprehensive thesis statement that can provide an overall explanation for an entire essay. Again, on rare occasions, I can fail to account fully on the study’s objectives, thereby reducing its reliability.
Question three
The most vital part of writing I need to work on is connecting research questions, objectives, and conclusions. Most of the papers have been writing, even after going through the English course, had issues with formulating research questions so that they in line with objectives. As such, I need to ensure that my papers provide a vivid conclusion based on research objectives and questions. Notably, writing skills go a long way with formatting styles, which is among the significant areas I need to improve. As stated earlier, I have been struggling with putting in place a thesis statement. Precisely, developing this part will guide me in providing a reader with an overall description of the paper’s contents. As a part of improving my writing skills, I will need to work on putting down a reliable conclusion that will provide the reader with the study’s findings and directives for further research.
Question five
As far as my writing experience is concerned, I still face challenges in identifying reliable sources to be used during research. Identifying sources that are in line with topic requirements has been a great challenge, although I am working on its perfection. Picking out only the relevant information from articles has been a challenge. As a tactic for gathering content swiftly from materials, I have learned to focus on abstract, research questions, objectives, findings, and conclusions. I have been struggling with paraphrasing information from articles to attain plagiarism-free essays, although I have improved significantly after enrolling in the English course. Eliminating grammar mistakes from my papers is yet another challenge, but have improved dramatically after writing a series of essays in addition to seeking consultations.
