Proposal/Problem Statement

According to the global statistics, America is among the leading when it comes to drug-related issues at the workplace. Therefore, one of the importance of learning about this issue is to help understand and monitor drug abuse. The rise also influenced our choice of this topic in substance abuse-related deaths. Several studies claim that alcohol and substance abuse contribute to a significant number of fatalities every year.

Generally, SHM is not only about physical health but the general health of an individual at the workplace and in the community. Therefore, the topic of substance abuse in the workplace will help enhance our SMH career plans. One of how this topic will help us is that it will expand our knowledge as far as workplace environment is concerned. Often, the focus of safety and health management is to ensure people are working in safe environments. Besides, the course assists in learning issues that may affect the individual in the workplace. As a result, an understanding of drug and substance abuse will help in the research of the relevant solutions.

Based on the existing research, some crucial gaps should be addressed in future studies. One of these gaps is related to drug abuse and basic scientific research. Generally, this area lacks critical focus due to the absence of proper guidelines to control drug abuse in the workplace.
