Sociology questions
This experiment and the findings did not surprise me. the participants continued to shock the subjects even when the subjects were in pain although that being inhuman. Human beings are often afraid of people in authority, and they tend to agree with almost everything that they tell them to do. while these participants were volunteers and nothing would have happened to them if they did not follow the instructions, they still did it. This reminds me of how people obey people in lab coats, as they see them as more powerful or superior. How they listen to and follow religious leaders and even at work how people agree with their bosses even though some situations don’t make sense. Over conformity also occurs in the classroom, where the students over comply with what the teachers say without any question asked. This happens in almost all sectors, and worse still in the government. it is depressing to think about what people can do if asked by the government officials. This experiment could answer very many questions about historical evils committed by people under the rule of some governments.
Student response
Interestingly, you found the results very surprising. I like the fact that if you were put in the same situation, you would not do the same. I agree with you that if I was asked to hurt someone even if it was by a person in authority, I would not do it. such actions bring guilt and pain which a person can carry through-out their lives. I also agree with you that Over conformity is popular in daily lives. I like the examples you have given of over-conformity and reading through them reminds me of the intensity of this situation. I like how you have organized your ideas and information. your discussion is clear, easy to understand and straight to the point.
