The Official Story

In the Atlantic Ocean, there is an area of 500,000 square miles surrounded by Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Miami. This area has had numerous reports of missing planes, ships and people. This area is called the Bermuda Triangle or the Devil’s Triangle. Many unexplained incidents surround this area, such as the one where the pilots of squadron used by user bombers became distracted while flying in the zone (Gernon, Bruce, and Rob MacGregor, 18). They drifted aimlessly for a while after which the planes lost their signals. These planes have never been found since this tragic accident. When the U.S government sent a rescue plane with 13 men, it also disappeared and has never been found.

Moreover, reports showed later that other planes and boats also mysteriously vanished while flying or sailing around this area. While cruising through the area, Christopher Columbus reported having seen a big flame of fire crash into the water during the night. A few weeks later, there appeared to be a strange light around the same area. He also said that the compass readings around this area were erratic, which he attributed to the true north and the magnetic north line up. Official reports also prove that Joshua Slocum, who was sailing solo around the globe, disappeared around the same area in 1909. Though nobody knows what happened to him, most sources later reported that his death was due to the Bermuda Triangle. Most scientifically minded authors have claimed that the Bermuda Triangle is a result of magnetic anomalies (Gernon, Bruce, and Rob MacGregor, 34). The Bermuda Triangle is an excellent subject of study for scientists in an attempt to learn more about the area and solve the mysteries around it. Despite the scientific theories concerning this area, it is also prone to mane conspiracy theories.

Alternative Theories

Despite the official reports from scientists explaining why the Bermuda Triangle exists, others claim that this place is prone to rogue waves. On the official report by scientists who claim that the magnetic fields could be the leading cause of this tragedy, several questions arise. According to the scientists, the point where the true north and the magnetic north align perfectly with each other is called the agonic line. Scientists also discovered that the agonic line shifts typically every year. This is because it sometimes passes through the Bermuda Triangle in a particular year and passes through the Gulf of Mexico in the other year. This raises the question of how these incidents only occur in the Bermuda Triangle and not in the Gulf of Mexico (Kelly, Dave, and Andrew, 43). This is a question that the scientists responsible for coining this theory cannot even answer. It would be correct to state that the accidents could be happening in other places too if this theory was correct.

More so, there could be other parts of the ocean where planes and ships sink mysteriously and not specifically in the Bermuda Triangle. More so, the scientists do not explain the phenomenon which causes boats and aircraft to disappear along this area. There is a conspiracy theory stating that Aliens use this place to capture humans and another that claims the Bermuda Triangle is in the centre of the lost city of Atlantis. These theories are essential to researchers and scholars in attaining more information about this mystery.

Analysis of Alternative Theories

Several writers have gone ahead to state that there are aliens who live in this area and that they usually sink ships and ships into the ocean. From this explanation, the writers state that the Bermuda Triangle is like a pathway which aliens use to travel from and to planet earth. Some articles even noted that the Bermuda Triangle is similar to a gathering station where aliens capture aircraft, ships and also people to further their research (Glasman et al., 56). Scientists have been against this theory stating that there is no substantial evidence to support this claim. It is therefore important to mention that so far, no facts are supporting this theory.

Atlantis is another conspiracy theory that attempts to explain the mysterious disappearance of planes around the Bermuda Triangle. Atlantis is a city that is said to have been lost in the Atlantic and writers believe it was destroyed and sank into the ocean floor (Glasman et al., 49). They think that there was a big temple that existed in the Lost City of Atlantis and despite being damaged, it still holds great power and energy. Similar to the other theory of aliens, the Atlantis theory does not have any verifiable facts.

Conclusion

The Bermuda Triangle has remained a mystery for many years and has never been solved yet. Despite the many attempts by scholars and researchers to come up with theories that are said to solve this mystery, the Bermuda Triangle is still one of the many unsolved theories that exist. This theory continues to exist because there is no enough information to support its claims. This theory shows that there could be a lot of unverifiable information written in history books. This theory indicates that it is human nature to believe what they cannot comprehend. People have a nature of attributing mysteries to written and reported theories.
