Treasure Dream – Book Description
The story is based on Treasure, a young girl with dark skin complexion and short kinky hair growing up in the USA. Treasure admires her mom, who is a doctor, idolizes Oprah Winfrey, and dreams of being an entrepreneur. In a class essay assignment, Treasure boldly writes her dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Unknown to her, her dream would attract bullying and bring her bitter tears.
While at the cafeteria taking lunch, her classmates tease her that she can never be an entrepreneur with her skin color and kinky hair. From this experience, Treasure hates everything about herself and cries bitterly, wishing she looked like her friends. Fortunately, her mom comes to her rescue, restores her shattered self-esteem, assuring her that looks never define one’s success.
Years later, Treasure becomes the CEO, the lead fashion designer for her multi-national clothing brand named “Dahlia,” and ends up being a philanthropist and famous. This story encourages young children, dark or not, that they can achieve success in life without adapting to a new culture or changing their skin color.
