A workplace is a location and environment where one works; a toxic workplace is an environment that negatively affects the wellbeing of an employee or an employer, causing stress, anxiety, and worry. Toxins can be gossip, fighting, coercion, backstabbing, manipulation, blackmail, and abuse occurring on a regular basis. Signs of toxins in the workplace may include the following, poor communication, bad attitudes, dysfunctional reigns, etc.
A negative working atmosphere may cause an employer to behave in a tyrannical manner bullying the employees around and being inconsiderate of the employee’s rights. No employee is willing to work in such conditions; this can lead to many of them calling in sick or having low morale hence less productivity.
Employees in unhealthy work environments may experience a slew of mental and physical health problems, including stress, anxiety, alcoholism, hypertension, and many other negative outcomes. Individuals may not sleep well, gain weight, and emotionally they become more discouraged, which eventually leads to depression.
To reduce toxins in working places, both the employer and the employee should work together as the effects hit hardly. Employers should emphasize on teamwork as working together towards one goal gives us pride and satisfaction in the end. Working collectively will see each member of the organization, trying hard to achieve the set goals. Proper communication and open office culture make the boss more approachable. There should be no favoritism and credit given where it is due.
