John Dewey’s conceptualization of a new theoretical approach
John Dewey’s conceptualization of a new theoretical approach to art still focuses on the prominence of contemporary discussions that are focused on aesthetics. It means that he differentiates a daily, continuous, and practical but frequently underdeveloped experiences and an ordinary experience which is distinguished by the sense of fulfillment and unity (Jacob, p.48) This paper will offer an aesthetic encounter at the Louvre’s Petite Galerie.
The virtual design of this gallery is designed to tell a story on the artists during the Renaissance to devote this space for artists such as Donatello, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti, and Albrecht Altdorfer. On entry into the virtual gallery, there are distinctive portraits that run vertically, and this could be an emphasis on the significant artists such as the Monalisa by Leonardo da Vinci. While moving through the entry, there is more art that is spread on the walls towards the main area where the Groupe de Vénus et Cupidon sculpture is located at the center of the gallery. Surrounding the sculpture, there are other images around which could be aimed at turning the attention of the audience to other Renaissance artists.
The quality of art that has been observed in this virtual gallery is of high quality. By using high-quality and ancient frames that still maintain the authenticity of the artwork, the presentation remains relevant to the period in which the art was drawn or crafted. Using what appears to be high-quality plastic polyvinyl chloride (PVC) material, some of the drawings have been printed and hung to illustrate the diversity in presentation. Sculptures have also been placed strategically in areas where they are not only the main attraction, but they also guide the audience to other pieces of art in the gallery.
Although this is a French virtual gallery, the main idea behind the presentation has several essential relations to the course. The first is on lighting, which plays a significant role in the gallery for better visual observations. The second is that under each piece, a description of the piece has also been included as a way to explain the history of the gallery. One issue that could arise as an inconvenience is the language aspect, which is not backed by a prompt for an automatic translation.
