Understanding Terms as Used in Education
The demanding society where people live enlightens them to understand the purpose of any action to take to achieve any task. Different terms are applied to whatever method or procedure is used to obtain specific objectives. People should understand the definition of strategy, policy and plans for them to define the purposes they are pursuing. Policies formulate the significant decisions that are to be achieved in the long term (Soundaian, 2019). In business institutions, the chief managing director and the management teams extract the goals that the institution is to work on to achieve the desired goals. A goal is the results of actions done to realize it. The management teams agree on the available alternatives that which one directs them to their objectives. The best priorities are selected and implemented to work on. The policies integrate the mission of the institution to ensure it is in accordance with ethical conscious. It spells out the extent to which it can be applied and to the parties that it is intended for. Before a policy is enacted, the actual information is collected and analyzed to verify whether the system is working towards the stipulated vision. Well-designed policies can succeed if they are feasible and agreed by the relevant stakeholders.
Strategies are systems and patterns of ascertaining the best tactics to achieve goals and priorities in uncertainty environment (Kreitner, 2008). They show estimates of the result of a project. This helps the organization to determine the amount of capital required to start, the level and the number of employees necessary to run a project. Strategies help the business to select the best tactics to minimize costs, increase sells and hiring of qualified staff in terms of knowledge and skills. As institutions and individuals are adhering to the policies, strategies act a control function as they are monitored to check if they are in alignment with the stated policies. The actual results are measured against the standard result. The deviation identified in corrected by designing a new strategy to ensure exact results are corresponding to expected results.
Plans are proposals that formulate steps, processes and actions to be done to achieve the desired objectives (Soundaian, 2019). They provide a roadmap of which activities needs to be completed first before meeting the goals. They are measured within a specified duration. The targets are measured against actual results, and the deviation is corrected by formulating a new strategy.
Policies are terms and conditions which lays the foundations of operation activities. The strategy is the proficient plan selected among the alternatives plans. The strategy is a plan chosen to be done while the policy is regulations guiding the implementation. Policies are long term decisions that are required to be achieved while strategies are the methods of making these long term decisions Unesco (n.d.). Plans states how strategies need to be performed and monitored to ensure they rhyme with the policies. Policies are broad and comprehensive statements that are pursued while strategies define the duties of relevant stakeholders in achieving goals. Plans provide information to assist in resource allocation and period to ensure that the pursued goals are feasible.
In conclusion, understanding policies, strategies and plans give the organization and individual to understand the purpose of the problem they are pursuing. The objectives can be spelt out, and individual stakeholders understand the roles which they are playing. Feasible policies result in achievable plans and policies. The fluctuations that arise from set targets and actual results can be able to be corrected timely, and further recommendations are issued. Unfeasible visions and goals can be detected in time to prevent the business risk of venturing unproductive project.
