Reason for Migrating Information to the Cloud
Cloud storage, which is a promising technology, is a computing model where data is stored in remote servers instead of hard drives. The cloud is an ensemble of servers that act as hosts to information they receive from different regions globally. Organizations are shifting their information to the cloud for various reasons, especially because of the advantages associated with cloud storage. In my opinion, one primary reason I can move information to the cloud is accessibility.
Accessibility is the major feature that makes the cloud unique from traditional storage. Although onsite storage using hard drives facilitates local access to information, moving the data to the cloud ensure unlimited access. The accessibility aspect of information storage is limited when using hard drives that it is in the cloud. Sometimes when an individual wants store information in a hard drive, there is a possibility of cluttering the device with invaluable information. This poses a challenge when accessing the information because differentiating useful information from useless one can be a challenge. Therefore, other authorized parties cannot utilize the information. On the contrary, cloud storage utilize advanced information compression function that gives them high indexing capability (Obrutsky, 2016). Therefore, most information stored in the cloud is useful and easily accessible to authorized users.
Although the cloud is associated with multiple benefits, there is a major concern regarding privacy issues. After moving information to a third-part cloud storage provider, there is a concern regarding who can access the data and who owns it (Hashizume, et al., 2013). Additionally, when information is moved to the cloud, the organization, cloud provider, and customer can access it, depriving the owner privacy rights, and either of the parties can use the information for malicious purposes; therefore, posing a significant security risk.
