The article “The Impact of Social Networking Sites on the Youth” by Khurana 2015 evaluates the impact of different social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Skype, Twitter, Ning, My Space on the youth. The platforms provide an opportunity for users to use web services by sharing ideas through comments, uploading, and downloading of pictures. The effort, concentration, and energy deliberated on these platforms have rendered the youth insensitive in other important life aspects such as in education; however, the impacts vary depending on an individual. They have become insensitive to chat even in schools, highways, religious gatherings, colleges, social gatherings to the extent of not attending people around them. Their attention has entirely shifted to the virtual world at the expense of the real world. By the fact that most of them have Smartphones and knowledgeable about social networking sites, they spend most of their time blogging, chatting, downloading pictures, watching video clips, and video calling. As a result, some have benefited, and some adversely affected, for example, academic failure and irredeemable addiction. Most youths find engrossed in social media adversities due to peer influence. On the other hand, social media platforms promote youth connectedness, quick access to information, and exposure.
